Putra Heights inferno: Over 100 houses offered as temporary homes for victims, says Selangor MB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Housing and Real Estate Board (LPHS) has agreed to offer more than 100 houses as temporary homes for victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the houses included in Kota Warisan, Sepang, while the other locations will be announced through the Selangor SMART Sewa scheme.

“If all goes well, the victims will be in their SMART Sewa house and also in Airbnb whose location will be determined later in a week or two,” told a press conference at a relief centre for the fire victims at the Putra Height Mosque here on Friday (April 4).

Also present were Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han.

Meanwhile,  Amirudin said more victims are expected to be allowed to return to their homes starting today.

He said the second group to be allowed to return home are occupants of 115 houses that have been identified as safe to reoccupy.

“This second group of victims will be allowed to return to their homes today after technical authorities confirm that their homes are safe to occupy and the utility services have been reconnected,” he said.

The fire involving a PETRONAS gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights at 8.10am on April 1, affected 1,254 people from 308 families.

A total of 87 houses suffered ‘total loss’  while 148 houses that were affected and suffered damage need repair. – Bernama
